Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Undercuts iPhone Duo by $300 in New Deal
The iPhone Duo has officially begun shipping today, though availability will likely be a struggle for anyone who didn't secure a pre-order. For those facing a long wait for Apple's latest, there is a formidable alternative currently available from Samsung.
Currently, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 stands as the sole competing wide-format foldable in the US market. While rumors suggest Motorola is developing a rival device, a release is still months away, and Google's typically slow rollout cycle makes a wide-screen Pixel unlikely in the immediate future.

Price is a major differentiator here. While the iPhone Duo enters the market with a $2,000 starting price for the 256GB configuration, the Z Fold8 is not only cheaper by default but is currently seeing an additional $200 price cut, resulting in a total savings of $300 over the Apple device.
In terms of ergonomics, the Galaxy takes the lead, measuring just 9.7mm thick compared to the Duo's 11.3mm, and weighing significantly less at 201g versus 254g. The displays are nearly identical: the Z Fold8 features a 5.5” cover screen (vs. 5.4” on the Duo) and both share a 7.6” main internal display with similar aspect ratios. Battery life will likely be a battle of efficiency rather than capacity, as both pack nearly the same amount of power (4,800mAh for Samsung and 4,883mAh for Apple). Under the hood, the Galaxy utilizes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Duo is powered by the Apple A20 Pro. Photography is a similar story for both; neither device includes a dedicated telephoto lens, relying instead on dual 50MP sensors for the Galaxy and dual 48MP sensors for the iPhone.
For those seeking an even larger canvas, Samsung also offers the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. You can find our comprehensive breakdown comparing the standard Z Fold8 to the Ultra model below, along with a video analysis pitting the two Samsung foldables against one another.
